When we generally think of technology when innovation is talked about, the food industry is something where innovation is an everyday affair. Neither the population of hungry food loving buddies will decrease, nor there will be a real recession in the food business. But the problem is – not everybody understands that food industry is not only about food, though delicacies need to be served and a chef plays an important role in the same, but people ditch homemade food for more than just food.
Umang Tewari owns a series of restaurants in Delhi, about ten outlets across India. His passion is to observe eating habits and find the scope for improvement in existing models of food business. He is an entrepreneur and a businessman who runs his business offering a place where other professionals could hang out and think out of the box. The variety offered at the outlets owned by him was decided while keeping in mind the inconsistency of food patters. You won’t eat a Pizza every time, even if you love it; same is with each dish served. Thus Junction was one idea where Umag decided to bring the diversity together. Each of his food outlet/restaurants has a theme. He knows that to ace food industry, it takes more than good food. You have to give the crowd a reason to ditch every other restaurant in their neighbourhood and take the pain of driving to your destination.
Umang clearly states that he took ten years learning, experimenting and researching for the recipe of a successful food-business venture. He stepped in only when he knew he was prepared. He has been making huge plans since 2002 but waited until 2015 to launch BigFish. Inspired by the ideas youth bring along with them, he is motivated to take his food on international scale. He knows and has put to practice his belief that for a successful food business other factors like location, ambience, the dynamics, the quality and hygiene also play a great role. He wishes not to restrict his dream by limiting the outlets to India, rather he aims at creating an impact worldwide and offer an opportunity to those who have tasted only the Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Continental the finest flavours of Indian delicacies.
